'slideous' ... then try to find a slideous-to-pdf converter. (I have no idea)

If you have GUI, Libreoffice will convert a doc to pdf. All with easy clickable menus..

thx jim but I went to emacs to centralize this kind of stuff, I indeed use to do lots of pdf producing with libreoffice, but I never liked it actually, too heavy and buggy. And now I put markdown everywhere, I really don"t understand why producing a pdf should be so complicated, it works flawlessly with about any other method (for instance I export from org mode without any problem, but I guess he's using latex directly instead of calling pandoc)

pdf is an extension of ps, as I recall. Emacs should be able to output ps, it is an ancient text formatting standard.

right, I had to get back to pandoc at the command line and found the solution. Of course it's totally disppointing :P

So for the record here is what pandoc says:

    pandoc --to pdf input.md
    pandoc: Unknown writer: pdf
To create a pdf with pandoc, use the latex or beamer writer and specify
an output file with .pdf extension (pandoc -t latex -o filename.pdf).

OK pandoc, I will do that.
Transposed to emacs pandoc mode, that means setting the name of the output file with pandoc-set-output choosing a ".pdf" extension, and setting the --to option to latex with pandoc-set-write

    Final output from emacs:

    Running `pandoc --read=markdown --write=latex --output=out.pdf'

    And still for the record:
    - Mardown minor mode as still automatically associated to .md file
    - I added a hook to pandoc-mode in .emacs : (add-hook 'markdown-mode-hook 'pandoc-mode) , so that pandoc-mode is also associated to .md files (so that I finally have access to key bindings like C-c / p to run pandoc)
    - now the thing seems to run smoothly with default parameters like --write=native , the "native" stuff being defined in a pandoc config file

a good page on pandoc mode here:
    https://joostkremers.github.io/pandoc-mode/

    RTFM like always...
