    It's clearly hyperbole. No one (except perhaps a severe clinical narcissist) believes the universe exists for their sake. But Christians (and probably most religious people) do believe that all the wonders of space and the magnificence of existence are of minor importance at best (if they accept them at all) compared with their obviously culturally-derived mythology centered around themselves and their petty insecurities about mortality. They place their own mythical afterlife on a higher level of metaphysical significance than anything. Many Christians do hold unspeakable contempt for those who seek greater understanding and knowledge of the incredible universe we inhabit and who place greater importance on learning about life than about fearfully obeying the doctrines taught to them out of concern for their own supposed salvation. It's not "thinking the whole thing was made just for them" but it's close enough.
