    to "work" by which I infer you mean lead to real positive change, we need much more sustained activity

    Hold on – this is a lot of historical distortion. The movement that opened the Berlin Wall in 1989 was entirely nonviolent. Tearing the wall down was done after the revolution had succeeded via nonviolence. As for the Bastille, that led to the beheading of 20,000 people and the rise of Emperor Napoleon. And Stonewall -- yes, as a bi person, I give it credit -- but it has overshadowed the history of the Philadelphia nonviolent uprising in 1965 that forced a restaurant to stop discriminating and is considered he real start of the LGBT movement of today. I’m saying this in the interest of completeness over meme simplicity. Violence as a pre-planned tactic is patriarchal thinking.
