Thank you for explaining the origination and purpose of this symbol. I have seen it displayed at ancient shrines in Japan, suspecting it was introduced to that culture with Mahayana Buddhism in the 6th century AD. I feel very relieved to see that it actually originated as a symbol of peace and blessing for all people of the world. What a shame that it is often mistakenly associated with the 20th century Nazi ideology and the darkness this has brought to our planet.

EXCELLENT EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!!!! It is very well thought out, researched, compiled, and presented. I pray that more people watch this video and that more educational professors utilize it for their classes. From your presentation, a person can see why Hitler used this symbol. HOWEVER, you are 100000% correct that they took the peaceful symbol in the very beginning and then turned it into a symbol of abuse. I applaud you on this video!!! Keep up the GREAT VIDEOS. Trivia: NAZIS did use a symbol that resembled the Swastika, but they never called it with that name! In fact the symbol was called a "Hooked Cross" (Hakenkreuz in German). Its the European christian community which altered the meaning to cover it up since it had Cross in its meaning, quite conveniently by pushing the blame on one of Sanatana dharma's most revered symbols instead, so much so, that even Google translate uses this false & outrageous definition for Hakenkreuz ! I have tweeted about it several number of times to Google (Mr. Sundar Pichai) and suggested alternate meaning (in edits) in Google translate...yet no change! I request readers of this comment to please visit Google translate and type Hakenkreuz and suggest "Hooked Cross" as the meaning/translation instead!

What a wonderful video! In Bulgaria, where I’m originally from, its been found on pottery dated to 6000 BCE, a traditional symbol of luck and prosperity. It’s so great to know more about its history. Thank you 😊

Excellent lesson. It’s very important to reclaim the meaning of the swastika to its original intent, the same as many of the Scandinavian runes.
Proper historical meanings and intent need to be understood and shared.

Many thanks for doing this video, I remember being a young girl at school and struggling to explain this symbol to my english friends; every Diwali we use do rangoli drawings on our household doorstep, as is custom and we always had swasthika symbols. Namaste!

This symbol is very well known and still used in Baltic states (I'm from Lithuania) For us it is Baltic pagan symbol of fire - Thunder Cross, or Fire Cross. I think not that much information is written in english about this and other pagan symbols used by our ancestors, but with time maybe more info will apear :)

The effort you have put in is visible, the details you found and narrowed it down to basic understanding. Proud of Bharat and it's intellectual ancestors who have blended symbols and tradition so beautifully that this symbol inspite of its abuse in the West ,is still considered auspicious by Indians.As you say its the intent with which it was made that it still a part of our dharmic traditions. Certainly our Bharat was the Land of Wisest Dharmagurus. See we still exist with our culture intact.
