I mean as a middle aged middle class white guy, I do get a much better understanding of what it's like to be targeted for violence when I'm out riding my bike on a busy street.

And I get it with riding my power chair. So many close calls. The worst to me is drivers making right turns while only looking to the left for that break in traffic. Or those only watching the traffic lights ignoring the "walk" signal. I do have one advantage. I used to ride a motorcycle and learned to make eye contact.

En plus de faire attention à ces automobiliste qui deviennent piétons tout en le restant dans leur comportement, il faut se coltiner ces fous furieux en trottinettes. Faire du vélo est un sport courage, intense et flippant !

Yes, achieving eye contact is difficult if not impossible. Without it or a wave,I just wait it out. It does stink though.

All cyclists? Certainly not me. But I get annoyed by people denying cyclists the right to use normal roads on an equal footing, for the convenience of motorists.

Yup. Slow down, protect your fellow cyclist citizens, and utter obscenities or something to deal with the stress. Unless you're emergency services you don't rate special privileges over cyclists so take the time to do the right thing.

It's self-loathing. The people trapped in their cars detest their hour-plus commute and are looking for someone to blame.

Case in point, San Francisco. The approaches to the Bay Bridge are horrendous. People ignore the 'Do Not Block Intersection' signs and routinely gum up the intersections.
