Essa è un insieme di variazioni prettamente clavicembalistiche dove giunge al limite il processo di disintegrazione del testo musicale in brevi sezioni contrastanti per stile, metro e tempo. [...] Da notare in questa toccata sono appunto il continuo cambiamento delle figurazione, l’imprevedibilità armonica, la grande inventiva e la grande fantasia ritmica.»

"The Ninth Toccata is one of the apexes of Frescobaldi's music scores. It is an ensemble of harpsichord's variations where the musical theme is decomposed and the idea of short
contrasting sections for style, meter and tempo is taken to the limits [...] In this toccata we should remark the continuous changing of [rhythmics], the harmonic unpredictability, the inventive and highly imaginative rhythmic sections".
