The whole idea is ludacris when you think about it. In the Summer and Fall when everything is blooming, you need all hands on deck gathering as much fruit and veg and you can. In the Winter, you'd need everyone out hunting. People did the work that needed doing. If your tribe was lopsided because of illness or war, then the other side stepped up to fight or hunt or make clothes or care for children. These jobs didn't stop needing to be done just because the "right" people weren't available.
