Higher math.

When my father the theoretical high energy physicist was teaching physics at the University of Wisconsin, rather than one tall board they had 3 boards on pullies that overlapped each other so you would fill one up and pull it up high and start on the next one, etc. There were 4 or 5 of these stacks around the walls in the front of the lecture hall.

I've posted this before but one of my favorite stories is from a former physics major who thought he was quite the future Nobel candidate. One day his regular professor was sick so my father had to cover the lecture. My father came in and asked them what page they were on in the textbook. He then spent the next hour filling all those blackboards with equations while talking a mile a minute.

The student left the hall thinking perhaps he should consider a change in his major.

This species is alien to me.
